The Admiralty University of Nigeria was established as a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) through the joint efforts of Nigerian Navy Holdings (a subsidiary organization of the Nigerian Navy) and Hellenic Education Nigeria – (a private consultancy, with international educators as main partners).Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill Full-Time, Part-Time and Daily Part-Time vacancy in the Academic Department of the University:Job Title: HTO/Technologist IILocation: DeltaJob Type: Senior Managerial/ Administrative and Support  Department: MicrobiologyOverall PurposeGeneral:To assist the teaching staff in the preparation of materials and equipment in the Science DepartmentsTo set up demonstration experimentsTo maintain the upkeep of equipment and laboratories within the Science DepartmentsTo carry out experimental research as instructed by facultyTo liaise with other lab users to ensure smooth running of experiments and use of equipmentTo assist in the running of a large suite of labs by replenishing stocks of consumables and maintaining equipmentTo process orders for consumable itemsTo train of new staff and students in good laboratory practicesTo prepare the materials and apparatus for demonstrations and practical workTo set up and test demonstration experiments and ensure that they workTo clean apparatus used by teaching staff and studentsTo inspect and arrange for repairs to furnishings, equipment and servicesTo liaise with other technicians within the Department to share expertise and deputise, where practicable, in their absenceTo contribute to the work of the Technician TeamTo undertake and record training as appropriateTo manage the stock control of stationary equipment and operate an efficient system for orderingTo provide advice, assistance and support to students during practical activities and project workTo assist the senior technician in timetabling each week’s practical activitiesTo attend Faculty meetings when necessaryTo contribute as required examinationsTo ensure the maintenance of a safe working environment, safety standards and practices within the Science DepartmentsTo inspect, maintain and ensure correct use of safety equipmentTo ensure equipment, apparatus, facilities and practical resources are maintained and correctly stored to meet safety standards and requirementsTo ensure safe disposal of chemical and Organic residues and other waste materialsTo advise on the school’s health and safety policy and ensure its implementation within the areas of responsibilityTo carry out safety and risk assessments as required and maintain records as appropriateTo maintain good standards of housekeeping within the prep. roomTo operate and administer stock control, including printed resourcesTo operate laboratory documentation systemsTo keep records of equipment on loan to other departments and students.Further InformationAccountability In undertaking these responsibilities the postholder will clearly be able to delegate specific functions, but not accountability for them, to other individuals.Hours: This is a full time post. The nature of the post is such that the postholder will be expected to work flexibly and for such reasonable hours (minimum 40) as are necessary in order to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the post.Leave: 25 days per annum.
