We are currently looking for a Technical Manager for a client of ours, who is an international food production company. Summary The technical manager will be responsible for the development of new products and improvement of existing products. The Jobholder takes leadership in innovation and technology initiatives to meet customer support and strategic business objectives. The Technical Manager will ensure that Research and Development projects involving product development are delivered. The person reports to the Head of Supply Chain, whilst direct reports are Quality Assurance Manager, HSE Manager, TPM Manager and Process/NPD Manager).· Acts as a project and product champion for responsible product platform by managing product portfolio to ensure adequate balance of project distribution within team.· Responsible for product development, with competence in the full length of the product development cycle, which includes conceptual development, formulation, implementation, process validation and continuous management and improvement.· Works closely with the technical staff, suppliers, food scientists and reviewing work output of direct reports, approves for next phase of process and mentors and develops staff skills.· Works to develop, bench test, scale-up, and commercialize new products/technologies in accordance with guidelines established in Project Initiation Request.· Demonstrates product and project ownership to ensure that all parameters are optimized for won and team projects.· Reviews product formulation characteristics across products and plants, and identify opportunities to simplify the system and capitalize on cost savings opportunities.· Ensures nutritional and finished product compliance with food legislation and regulations whilst company standards are maintained· Utilizes existing product formulation approach to assure finished product nutritional adequacy (label and nutrition claim) applying statistical data from key raw materials.· Provides process, operations and supply chain support; leads supply chain initiatives including formula transfer among plants, evaluation of new suppliers of raw materials, increased or decreased use of existing raw materials, and evaluation of processing parameters.· Working closely with the food manufacturing clients and ingredient suppliers to make sure the high standards & level of satisfaction are also met and look to continuously improve the procedures carried out· Manages a total project portfolio in accordance with overall directive thereby issuing project updates and alerting team of circumstances which may impact ability to deliver desired results with contingency plan in place via project reports. · Working closely with Suppliers to assist them in implanting quality management systems within their factories.
